LAR Fibreglass Chair by Charles and Ray Eames

SOLD TO ARLON (BELGIUM)

About the item:

Orange fibreglass armchair by Charles and Ray Eames.

Originally designed in 1949, this example features a Fehlbaum production shell from the 1970s.

Fehlbaum was a licensed Eames producer who produced European Eames shells from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Nowadays Felhbaum is known as Vitra but its origins were in producing Eames products in license.

This chair is marked with the embossed V logo on the bottom of the shell, proving its originality and authenticity.

Quite unique for this shell is that it still has its original LAR (cradle / ice skate base) base and shock mounts. The shock mounts are marked as well.

Orange is a relatively rare color to come by for these shells.

The Felhbaum pieces are increasing in value and are therefore interesting investment pieces, in particular because the most sought after Zenith plastics shells have become hardly affordable anymore.

In particular this chair because of its original base, shock mounts and shell has potential in appraising in value.

About its condition:

The chair is in excellent original vintage condition.

The shell has beautiful matching patina but is completely solid without any substantial damage.

The base has some corrosion, consistent with its age, but still completely solid as well.
