The 877 Wingback armchair is an absolute classic. Appreciated at large by the design world, this iconic armchair was designed in 1959 by Gianfranco Frattini. The chair offers both the highest quality of construction and materials as well as the most sophisticated Italian design.

Originally named “Giulia”, this armchair was designed by Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina in 1957. Named after the wife of his mentor, Gio Ponti, Frattini’s goal was to redesign the classic wingback chair.

This large chair is built around a central walnut wood shell which has been intentionally left uncovered where it meets the beautifully molded side panels. The panels, upholstered in natural leather, are attached by 4 wood buttons on each side. The top shell is made out of the highest quality materials and seems to float on its wooden frame. The volume of the shell is therefore compensated by the minimalism of the frame and therefore provides a balanced overall design.The ears on the side complement the secluded look and provide for armrest support simultaneously. The patterned leather provide the finishing touch.

The rarity of this chair is exemplified by history. It was designed in 1957 yet only build during 1958 and 1959. Nowadays, the 877 wingback chair is among the top of the market and strongly cherished by design enthousiasts worldwide.

About its condition 

This chair is in an absolute perfect condition as it has just undergone a full restoration for which no costs have been spared. The entire chair was built-up again from its frame. The foam was entirely replaced, the buttons were replaced and the entire chair has been upholstered in high quality black natural leather. The wood frame was checked as well and has been oiled to regain its original grain. The restoration was done at the highest standards and details of this restoration are available upon request.
