About the item:
Another design classic from Pierre Paulin.
For this piece, Pierre Paulin was inspired by movement and motion. The F444 is designed in a backwards motion, with the actual seating position in a backwards position. whereby the seating frame is actually designed free floating. The design was an experiment in engineering perspective as well. All the weight and forces are centered on the front legs because the actual seat is not supported.
The metal frame actually forms the base of the entire chair, both under and upper part and continues fluently from bottom to top in 3 strong curves. The upholstery actually hangs in between the outer end of the metal frames. As well, the strong “lay back” design is noticeable in the design.
The overall result is a lounge chair design that is unmatched to date.
The F444 features either a leather upholstery or or a canvas upholstery. The latter one often in a see-through mesh structure. This canvas looks good and fits the chair perfectly as well as that its a very strong and durable material. The leather versions are often plagued by tears of the leather of the mounting points and leather replacement is expensive. The canvas edition doesn’t have this problem.
For this specific chair, the mesh is grey coloured and matched with a white metal frame. The Artifort sticker is present on the frame, proving its authenticity. The sticker indicates a 1970s or 1980s production.
