PICTURE ONLY FOR REFERENCE

Set of infamous Language dining chairs by the French grandmaster of design Joseph André Motte, also known as “Tongue” chairs, due to the unmistakable shape of the seat.

These chairs were designed in 1954 by Joseph André Motte for Steiner France, as part of his series for Steiner. The 771 chairs were actually designed in conjunction with the 770 series. And the similarities are clear, both in the shaped metal frame and the rounded forms of the seat. Notice the twist in the feet near the bottom, a typical Motte design feature. Also the fact that the seat and backrest are of the exact same shape and form.

The specific chairs in question have been stripped from their fabric to provide an ideal basis for reupholstery. Original metal frame with has some wear and discoloration, ready for a new paint layer. The chairs are an ideal basis for a restoration project. Original Steiner labels below.

The chairs are in solid original condition and can be used for reupholstery projects.
